Only a few kilometres from Cape Town, lie stunning wilderness areas where guests are able to view all of Africa's wildlife. Though these reserves cannot compete with the northern provinces in terms of Big Five diversity, they are however able to offer visitors the ability to view wild animals like buffalo, rhino, giraffes and predators like leopard and karakul in a pristine environment. There are many companies offering safari's however we have selected two of the best.

Fairy Glen
Fairy Glen Big 5 Safaris was awarded the Best Destination Winner for exhibition excellence in the category, Game Lodges, B&B, Guest Houses, Hotels & Resorts. Tucked away at the foot of the World famous Brandwacht Mountains in a peaceful rustic environment near Cape Town this African Big 5 Game Reserve surrounded by proteas and fynbos vegetation not only offers Game Drives and Bush Safari's but is also home to a African Khoisan Bushmen Rock Art heritage site dating back some 6000 years. The name Fairy Glen originates from a very large dragonfly which was found from time to time in their natural habitat in the valley mountain streams, known as Fairy Glen.
The African Style Restaurant serves mostly traditional food and caters for vegetarian and vegan guests. Fairy Glen Private Game Reserve not only hosts Cape Town's nearest Big 5 but also species like blue wildebeest, giraffes, eland, the endangered bontebok, zebras, lynx, oryx and other smaller buck species including klipspringer, nyala, rhebok, steenbok and a big variety of African bird species like the endangered Black Eagle better known as the Aquila.

Inverdoorn Game Reserve
Inverdoorn offers one or two day wildlife safari tours. Overnight visitors are accommodated in luxurious en-suite chalets and guesthouses. Full breakfasts, buffet lunches and five-course dinners are served under the Eucalyptus trees or in the Boma style restaurant. Guests are encouraged to relax at Inverdoorn. Additional facilities for more active guests include a Swimming pool, Tennis court, Gym, Bicycles, French Boules/ Petanque, landing strip for light aircraft and a helipad. Guided nature walks are also available on request. Travel through wine regions of Paarl & Wellington, 2 hour Game Drive in open-air 4x4, includes lunch. Return to Cape Town via the Huguenot Tunnel.
